I can honestly say I have never laughed harder while reading a book. So many gems in here I can’t keep count and I fully intend on re-reading soon to tab my favorite lines.
I give my 5 star reviews to books I plan on re-reading, recommending obsessively, and most importantly, books I cannot forget. This is a ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ read.
An orc warrior, a halfling rogue, a priest, a pyromaniac wizard, a female barbarian, and a bard walk into a tavern … it’s a small miracle they didn’t burn it down.
They were hired to save the world but might accidentally end it. Follow the bumbling adventures of these unlikely heroes as they attempt to quest their way into defeating Gobthorak the Eater of Worlds.
Are they the heroes for the job? No, definitely not. Can they get the job done? Unlikely. Are they the world’s last hope? Unfortunately for everyone, yes.
When the final battle looms will the Last Available heroes stand and fight or heed the call of a tankard of ale? Will they even make it out of the tavern and show up for the final battle? Nobody’s certain but whatever happens, it won’t be pretty.

Wow. Could not put this down.
This is my first time reading Dawn Hosmer and I cannot get enough. I read this in one night. I could not put it down. I can’t wait to read her next books. The storytelling is engaging.
Mackenzie is stuck between two worlds. She is getting pulled into the past to remember her life choices and her regrets, and then she is pulled into the present to watch life play out after her death and tries to piece together what went wrong and how she died. Absolutely intriguing.
My name is Mackenzie Bartholomew, or at least it was. I’m staring at my dead body, lying in a casket. I was a healthy, thirty-nine-year-old, mother of three.I have so many questions but very few answers. Was I murdered? Did I commit suicide? I don’t know if I’m in some sort of purgatory or if I’ve gone straight to hell.I’m stuck somewhere in between life and death, forced to travel back in time to relive moments from my past, ones I’d rather forget. I’m desperate to piece together the details surrounding my death. If I don’t, I fear my soul will never find rest.Chock full of family drama, secrets, betrayal, and lies, Somewhere in Between is a Psychological Thriller with wicked twists that will keep you hooked until the last page.

This was a great read. Every chapter had me hooked and I enjoyed every second. I didn’t want it to end.
I’m partial to this story type, futuristic science plots that show what could go right…and wrong. The author did great putting together this world and the overlapping timelines. He really did his homework and it made the story that much better.
As a paraplegic, Ryan has always dreamed of walking. He saved a small fortune to undergo a common procedure in his time to transfer his mind into a physically fit host body. Afterwards, his obsession with walking is immediately overshadowed by a strange and frightening side effect unraveling the reality he once knew.
This gripping psychological thriller takes the reader on an adventure far beyond the potential consequences of transferring one’s consciousness to a new body. The interweaving story line will have the reader second guessing what is real and what is dream, and prove that knowing the truth can be the difference between life and death.

Not for the faint of heart, but happily ever after comes in many forms.
These two authors are fearless when it comes to pouring out the darkness in humanity and even the darkness in ourselves through these stories. Don’t be fooled by some lightheartedness, these fairy tale mashups are the real Grimm deal and done spectacularly.
As is normal with anthologies, not all of these stories may be your cup of tea, but I assure you, if you’ve gotten to this page and are reading reviews, take the leap and read this book.
To those who wander the woods alone, be wary of all things magical under the moon. From werewolves to vampires, fairies and spirits, even the rumblings of dragons. Take to heart what warnings you can from these six grim tales.

Whoa! What a journey! This was a true pirates tale. I loved every moment of Callisto’s rise to become Queen of the Seas. And rise she did; the character growth of her, her crew, their enemies and allies alike was all masterfully done.
The morally gray lines were crisscrossing all over the place and I was rooting for everyone at least once. I was also screaming at the author a few times as I read (you know what you did).
I highly recommend this for anyone looking for an adventure. I am eagerly awaiting the next book for more Callisto.
The seas are wicked and dangerous at the best of times. The ancient gods of old still lay claim to the ocean realm man cannot hope to conquer. Very few still make offerings to those unforgiving deities in faith for clemency; fewer still have learned the secrets to coexist with such vengeful beings... ...and only one among those was ever favored with the title, Queen of the Seas. In a world ruled by men and gold, Callisto was no fool. If she wanted something, she had to take it by any means necessary, and it was because of her bold, unruly nature that everything she had dreamed for had changed... with the whisper of a god and a bloodied dagger... twice. The life of a pirate had never been her dream, until the moment she seized control of the Poseidon's Fury. Right there and then, it had become her destiny. One she had been born for. Chosen for. And one which men had begun to fear.

Wow. Alright this is not at all what I was expecting when I picked this up. It was way better.
On the surface: The sentences were almost musical to read, and not in a heavy prose way that I usually struggle with. This was a delight. I found myself re-reading sentences just for their beauty.
Deeper meaning: What was truly remarkable is, even though there is a story here about specific characters, I believe it is written for everyone. Any person picking up this book can place themselves in these emotions. Every sentence can gain an entirely different meaning one reader to the next.
I don’t do this justice with my review, but I highly recommend.
As with each of the Fractured Cities, Cornucopia is a world unto itself.
A place where faith makes magic and magic makes faith.
A place of excess and obsession, where the only sin is a life of less, of moderation.
But here in Cornucopia, moderation isn't just a sin, it's also a place. A bar, a haven of balance and restraint, where the Bartender welcomes any who will sit, follow the rules, and order a drink.
What will he give the Stranger - a man new to the city, searching for his wayward love? And to the Regular - a woman bereft of faith, in need of new purpose?
Perhaps in this city of glut, the Stranger will need more than a drink, the Regular more than her usual. Perhaps they'll need each other; an ally with whom to fight a city that ensnares all it touches.

I found this book in the SPSFC book competition and I'm glad I tried it. This was quite an adventure and I was fully immersed in Kerelle's journey the entire time.
For Kerelle Evandra, her psionic powers have always meant three things: mandatory service to a multigalactic corporation, a luxurious lifestyle as a prized asset, and an electronic collar that will kill her if she steps out of line.
As a powerful telekinetic, she’s spent the last ten years of her life in the corporate military, fighting anyone and anywhere the company demands. While she might resent her gilded cage - and obedience to her corporate masters’ cold directives - everyone knows that escape is impossible. And defiance risks not just her own life, but also the life of the person closest to her: Galhen Ambrel, her lover and fellow bound psionic.

The universe is ending, and it's his job to save it
I don't think I fully understood this book, but I sure did enjoy reading it. This was amusing, adventurous, unique, and Um, highly entertaining.
The year is 20018. The famed magician Illuminari is dead, and his greatest illusion has died with him. Dark forces now seek the Engine of Armageddon, the ancient, sentient doomsday weapon that Illuminari hid amongst the stars. Enter Percival Gynt, accountant and part-time hero, whose quest to find the Engine before it falls into the wrong hands may be our universe’s last best hope for survival. It is a quest that will take him from the highest reaches of power to the lowest pits of despair and through every manner of horror and absurdity between. But beware. This accountant has a secret. A secret that may damn us all. Percival Gynt and the Conspiracy of Days is a sci-fi/fantasy adventure novel full of swashbuckling, math, dark secrets, space-faeries, obtrusive product placement, Nazis, beating up those Nazis, unlimited baked beans, zombie cyborg assassins, fate with a capital "F," love, betrayal, wizards, jokes, paradoxes, a sentient doomsday weapon, eleven-dimensional space, clones, monsters, space-nuns, and at least one rat-chef. (Only one rat-chef.)

Doc Holliday meets the supernatural world.
I really enjoyed this murder mystery, sci-fi, thriller. It was fun, had interesting characters, a sense of humor, and a unique perspective on supernatural. I highly recommend.
Those dark and terrible things from your nightmares are VERY real.
They walk among us, masquerading as your neighbor, your lover, even your friend. You see, Empire City is full of them…if you only know where to look. How do I know this? Well, for starters the name is Detective Tom Holliday. I work homicide for Special Crimes. My friends, what few I have, call me Doc.
And the other reason?
I’ve got magic of my own.
Welcome to Empire City, where magic and technology co-exist, and humanity endures behind walls of stone and spell-forged steel. A place where danger lurks around every street corner, and anything is possible.
When former hotshot homicide detective Tom “Doc” Holliday is recruited to join Special Crimes, he trades in his boring desk job for a second chance to do what he does hunt down killers.
And his first case doesn’t disappoint—a murdered woman with a bogus past, her body drained of blood, and two eyewitnesses wasted on the designer drug goldjoy claiming a vampire did it. Armed with a fickle clairvoyance and saddled with a team whose past is as checkered as his own, Holliday embarks upon an investigation through a dystopian landscape filled with bio-engineered vampires, interdimensional shadow parasites, and the magical masterminds behind it all.

One stop shop: adventure, fantasy, love, and war.
A woman is transported from her modern day life into a land with unconventional mythical creatures ready to embark on an adventure to save both of their worlds.
Although the beginning of the story has a slow set up, it is worth staying to follow their journey to the end. This book draws you in with strong characters, humor in just the right places, and fun parallels between worlds. I enjoyed this to the last page.
Even adults need fairy tales.
The Stairs in the Woods takes you through a journey into a magical fantasy world while also exploring a unique coming of age story.
After spending most of her life a continent away, Kaitlynn Jenson has come home to Connecticut to tend to her ailing father. But the discovery of a strange painting above the mantle of her childhood home leads her on an adventure to a magical world called Somalie, where mythical creatures exist. But when the painting is stolen, she becomes trapped in Somalie with no means of return.
With little choice, a destiny she's yet to understand, and a family secret to discover, Kaitlynn must become embroiled in the battle to save Somalie. The evil she must face could have potentially dire consequences for her own world, as well as the family and friends she left behind.

This had me on the edge of my seat, ok not literally cause I read it in bed, but I did stay up late to finish it in one night. Great story, very entertaining, and well written.
A cascade of horrifying events occur after a deep space asteroid strike. Sage, Noah and Dylan have little time to prove the crystalline form taking over their ship is a parasitoid entity. Things gets all too real as friends succumb to the blooming and systems go critical. Is the cost of saving the Vega Four too high?
From the author that brought you WE ARE MARS, comes a gripping, new sci-fi horror.

I could not put this down. This story of the gods reimagined and Hades is my absolute hero.
I quickly scanned reviews before posting my own and I am surprised to see many people complain the mythology is wrong. Well guys, it’s a retelling, liberties were obviously taken for the joy of reading this vibrant story. And it is worth every second.
The writing style is wonderfully descriptive which is not normally something I enjoy, but each scene I was sucked in even more. I absolutely loved this and I shouldn’t have let it sit on my shelf so long before reading.
All legends are born out of truth. Yet there is one that’s true story has all been but forgotten. Legend tells us that Zeus, Poseidon, and Hades were brothers who overthrew the first gods, taking the world for themselves. Drawing lots, Zeus, king of the gods, became ruler of the skies. Brave Poseidon drew the lot of the seas, but wicked Hades was tricked into drawing the lot of the Underworld where he became the most feared and hated of the gods. This is merely legend though. The truth... The truth is very different.

Cats belong in space
The writing tethered me in from the first page and I was hooked. The characters: human, alien, and cat, spoke to me like a long lost friends. I thoroughly enjoyed this story.
A dying universe.
When the Home worlds finally achieved the technology to venture out into the stars, they found a graveyard of dead civilizations, a sea of lifeless gray planets and their ruins. What befell them is unknown. All Home knows is that they are the last civilization left in the universe, and whatever came for the others will come for them next.
A search for answers.
Scout is an Archivist tasked with scouring the dead worlds of the cosmos for their last gifts: interesting technology, cultural rituals—anything left behind that might be useful to the Home worlds and their survival. During an excavation on a lifeless planet, Scout unearths something unbelievable: a surviving message from an alien who witnessed the world-ending entity thousands of years ago.

I picked this book a year ago from the author (signed copy, thank you!) at the Tucson book festival. It took me a year to get to it, my TBR pile is out of control, but I am so thrilled I finally read this.
The world is brilliantly described throughout the book and it feels like a modern day earth, but with fantasy creatures. I was totally immersed in this crime drama and couldn’t wait for the next clue to come. The characters were well thought out; bad guys, good guys, and everyone in between.
Elves, orcs, dwarves and other fantasy races are depicted in a modern society whose physics are based on magic spells. This world acts as the backdrop for this engaging and action packed series of Bruce Davis mysteries and procedurals, starting with book Platinum Magic .
When King’s Agents Simon Buckley and Haldron Stonebender raid a suburban farmhouse, they expect to find an illegal bomb factory full of Orc terrorists. Instead, they end up killing the sister of the current Elf ruler, turning a straightforward police raid into an international incident. Now, Simon and his team must battle terrorists, gangsters, and their own superiors to find the truth behind the High-Elf’s involvement and avert a war.

Loved how the hurt and pain was captured to a T, then the growth, and warmth that comes with self love as we pull ourselves up and out of darkness. This is a great collection.
a collection of poems about the author’s personal journey with depression, PTSD, and anxiety. On her darkest days she felt as if she were at the bottom of a long forgotten well unable to climb out. Writing became a therapeutic way to express her thoughts when she felt she had no voice to speak.
Michelle Mcbeth
I enjoyed this. Fast-paced and fun time travel story with interesting characters. It’s not too in-depth on anything or anyone specific if you prefer books that have deep characters but it kept me interested to see how everything turned out.

Action packed government takedown
This was my first venture into the cyberpunk sci fi genre and I was not disappointed. The author did a great job juggling so many moving parts and piecing them together throughout the book. This was very well thought out. I am looking forward to reading more of this series.
